حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ، عَنِ الْمَسْعُودِيِّ، عَنْ عَوْنِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ، عَنْ أَبِي فَاخِتَةَ، عَنِ الْأَسْوَدِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ قَالَ: قَالَ عَبْدُ اللهِ: يَقُولُ اللهُ [تَعَالَى ]:
مَنْ كَانَ لَهُ عِنْدِي عَهْدٌ فَلْيَقُمْ " قَالُوا: يَا أَبَا عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ! فَعَلِّمْنَا، قَالَ: قُولُوا: اللَّهُمَّ فَاطِرَ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ، عَالِمَ الْغَيْبِ وَالشَّهَادَةِ، إِنِّي أَعْهَدُ إِلَيْكَ عَهْدًا فِي هَذِهِ الْحَيَاةِ الدُّنْيَا: أَنَّكَ [٢]إِنْ تَكِلْنِي إِلَى عَمَلٍ تُقَرِّبْنِي [٣]مِنَ الشَّرِّ وَتُبَاعِدْنِي [٤]مِنَ الْخَيْرِ، وَإِنِّي لَا أَثِقُ إِلَّا بِرَحْمَتِكَ، فَاجْعَلْهُ لِي عِنْدَكَ عَهْدًا، تُؤَدِّيهِ إِلَيَّ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ، إِنَّكَ لَا تُخْلِفُ الْمِيعَادَ

He said: Say: "O Allah, Originator of the heavens and the earth, Knower of the unseen and the witnessed, I make a covenant with You in this worldly life: that if You leave me to my own work, it will bring me closer to evil and farther from good, and I trust only in Your mercy. So make it a covenant for me with You, which You will fulfil for me on the Day of Resurrection. Indeed, You do not break the promise."
