Machine translation, not reviewed

A man came to Ibn Masʿūd and said: "A man among us married a woman, did not appoint a dowry for her, and did not consummate the marriage with her until he died." Ibn Masʿūd said: "Since I parted from the Prophet ﷺ, I have not been asked about anything harder for me than this." He said: So he hesitated over it for a month. Then he said: "I will give my own opinion about it. If it is correct, it is from God, and if it is wrong, it is from me and from Satan. I see that she has a dowry equal to that of her womenfolk, neither less nor more, and she has the inheritance, and she must observe the waiting period (ʿiddah) of a woman whose husband has died." Then some people from Ashjaʿ stood up and said: "We testify that the Messenger of God ﷺ ruled the same as what you have ruled, regarding a woman from among us called Barwaʿ bint Wāshiq." He said: I never saw Ibn Masʿūd as happy as he was on that day.
