I asked ʿĀʾishah about living in the desert (badāwah), and she said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to go out to these hills. Once he wanted to go out to the desert, so he sent me a she-camel that had not been ridden, from the camels of charity. He said to me: "O ʿĀʾishah, be gentle, for gentleness is not in anything except that it adorns it, and it is not removed from anything except that it disfigures it."
