We were with Maʿqil b. Yasār, and he called for food, and we ate. Then a cup of nabīdh was brought to us, and he drank and we drank, until it reached a son of his, who refused to drink. So Maʿqil took a stick that he had with him and struck his head with it and wounded him. Then he said to him: Do you do such and such - and he mentioned some of his faults - and refuse to drink from a drink that his father and his uncles drank, because it is nabīdh of a jar?!
