Then the year 354 AH began
ذِكْرُ طَاعَةِ أَهْلِ عُمَانَ مُعِزَّ الدَّوْلَةِ وَمَا كَانَ مِنْهُمْ وَفِيهَا سَيَّرَ مُعِزُّ الدَّوْلَةِ عَسْكَرًا إِلَى عُمَانَ، فَلَقَوْا أَمِيرَهَا، وَهُوَ نَافِعٌ مَوْلَى يُوسُفَ بْنِ وَجِيهٍ، وَكَانَ يُوسُفُ قَدْ هَلَكَ، وَمَلَكَ نَافِعٌ الْبَلَدَ بَعْدَهُ، وَكَانَ أَسْوَدَ، فَدَخَلَ نَافِعٌ فِي طَاعَةِ مُعِزِّ الدَّوْلَةِ، وَخَطَبَ لَهُ، وَضَرَبَ لَهُ اسْمَهُ عَلَى الدِّينَارِ وَالدِّرْهَمِ، فَلَمَّا عَادَ الْعَسْكَرُ عَنْهُ وَثَبَ بِهِ أَهْلُ عُمَانَ فَأَخْرَجُوهُ عَنْهُمْ، وَأَدْخَلُوا الْقَرَامِطَةَ الْهَجَرِيِّينَ إِلَيْهِمْ، وَتَسَلَّمُوا الْبَلَدَ، فَكَانُوا يُقِيمُونَ فِيهِ نَهَارًا وَيَخْرُجُونَ لَيْلًا إِلَى مُعَسْكَرِهِمْ، وَكَتَبُوا إِلَى أَصْحَابِهِمْ بِهَجَرَ يُعَرِّفُونَهُمُ الْخَبَرَ لِيَأْمُرُوهُمْ بِمَا يَفْعَلُونَ.
Translation
✧ Mention of the obedience of the people of Oman to Muʿizz al-Dawla and what befell them In this year, Muʿizz al-Dawla dispatched an army to Oman. They encountered its emir, who was Nāfiʿ, the client of Yūsuf b. Wajīh. Yūsuf had perished, and Nāfiʿ had taken possession of the land after him; he was black. Nāfiʿ entered into obedience to Muʿizz al-Dawla, proclaimed the khuṭba in his name, and struck his name on the dinar and the dirham. When the army withdrew from him, the people of Oman rose up against him and expelled him from among them. They admitted the Qarmaṭians of Hajar to their midst, and they took possession of the land. They would remain in it by day and go out at night to their camp. They wrote to their comrades in Hajar informing them of the news so that they might command them what to do.
