✧ I was sitting with Hudhayfah and Abu Mas'ud when the people of Kufa despised Sa'id ibn al-'As on the Day of Jara'ah. Abu Mas'ud said, “I did not think we would return without shedding blood there.” Hudhayfah said, “By Allah, I knew that we would return on our heels without shedding a cupping-glassful of blood. And I knew nothing of that except something I learned while Muhammad ﷺ was alive: ‘A man may enter the morning a believer and enter the evening a disbeliever with nothing of his religion with him, and enter the evening a believer and enter the morning a disbeliever with nothing of his religion with him. He fights in the tribulation of today, and Allah ﷻ will kill him tomorrow. His heart will be overturned, and his anus will rise above him.’” I said, “His lower part?” He said, “His anus.”
