✧ "You are in a time in which the one who speaks the truth is better than the one who remains silent, and the one who stands up is better than the one who sits. After you will come a time in which the one who remains silent is better than the one who speaks, and the one who sits is better than the one who stands." He said: A man said, "O Abu 'Abd al-Rahman, how can a matter be such that whoever takes it today is guided and whoever takes it after today is astray?" He said, "You have already done it. Consider this by two men who passed by a people committing sins. Both of them disapproved, but one of you remained silent and so was safe, while the other spoke and said, 'You are doing such-and-such.' They seized him and took him to their ruler, and he did not cease—or they did not cease—until he adopted their ways and acted as they did."
