أَخْبَرَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عُقْبَةَ الشَّيْبَانِيُّ بِالْكُوفَةِ ثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ عَفَّانَ الْعَامِرِيُّ ثَنَا أَسْبَاطُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْقُرَشِيُّ ثَنَا مُطَرِّفُ بْنُ طَرِيفٍ الْحَارِثِيُّ ثَنَا أَبُو الْجَهْمِ عَنِ الْبَرَاءِ بْنِ عَازِبٍ قَالَ

إِنِّي لَأَطُوفُ عَلَى إِبِلٍ لِي ضَلَّتْ فَأَنَا أَجُولُ فِي أَبْيَاتٍ فَإِذَا أَنَا بِرَاكِبٍ وَفَوَارِسَ فَجَعَلَ أَهْلُ الْمَاءِ يَلُوذُونَ بِمَنْزِلِي وَأَطَافُوا بِفِنَائِي وَاسْتَخْرَجُوا مِنْهُ رَجُلًا فَمَا كَلَّمُوهُ حَتَّى ضَرَبُوا عُنُقَهُ فَلَمَّا ذَهَبُوا سَأَلْتُ عَنْهُ فَقَالُوا عَرَّسَ بِامْرَأَةِ أَبِيهِ

✧ I was searching for some camels of mine that had strayed, and I was going around some tents when suddenly I saw a rider and horsemen. The people of the watering place began to seek refuge in my dwelling and surrounded my courtyard, and they brought out a man from it. They did not speak to him until they struck his neck. When they left, I asked about him, and they said: 'He had married his father's wife.'
