حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عِيسَى ثنا أَبُو مَنْصُورٍ يَحْيَى بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ زِيَادٍ ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ مَعِينٍ ثنا هُشَيْمٌ أَنْبَأَ دَاوُدُ بْنُ أَبِي هِنْدٍ وَأَخْبَرَنِي أَبُو بَكْرٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الشَّافِعِيُّ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بِشْرِ بْنِ مَطَرٍ ثنا وَهْبُ بْنُ بَقِيَّةَ ثنا خَالِدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ دَاوُدَ بْنِ أَبِي هِنْدٍ عَنْ أَبِي حَرْبِ بْنِ أَبِي الْأَسْوَدِ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ فَضَالَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ
عَلَّمَنِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَكَانَ مِمَّا عَلَّمَنِي «حَافِظْ عَلَى الصَّلَوَاتِ الْخَمْسِ» فَقُلْتُ إِنَّ هَذِهِ سَاعَاتٌ لِي فِيهَا أَشْغَالٌ فَمُرْنِي بِأَمْرٍ جَامِعٍ إِذَا أَنَا فَعَلْتُهُ أَجْزَأَ عَنِّي فَقَالَ «حَافِظْ عَلَى الْعَصْرَيْنِ» وَمَا كَانَتْ مِنْ لُغَتِنَا فَقُلْتُ وَمَا الْعَصْرَانِ؟ قَالَ «صَلَاةٌ قَبْلَ طُلُوعِ الشَّمْسِ وَصَلَاةٌ قَبْلَ غُرُوبِهَا»

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ taught me, and among what he taught me was: “Guard the five prayers.” I said, “These are times in which I have occupations, so command me with a comprehensive matter which, if I do it, will suffice me.” He said, “Guard the two 'asrs.” It was not from our dialect, so I said, “What are the two 'asrs?” He said, “A prayer before sunrise and a prayer before sunset.”
