✧ I saw the Muhājirūn and the Anṣār digging the trench around Madinah, carrying dirt on their backs, saying [rajaz verse]: “We are those who pledged allegiance to Muḥammad, upon Islam as long as we remain forever.” And the Messenger of Allah ﷺ answered them, saying: “O Allah, there is no good except the good of the Hereafter, so bless the Anṣār and the Muhājirūn.” Then a platter was brought containing a handful of barley with chaff, prepared with rancid fat, and it was placed before the people while they were hungry. It was unpleasant in the throat and had a smell.
