✧ Ibn Ziyad came to Syria after the people of Syria had pledged allegiance to Abdullah b. al-Zubayr, except for the people of al-Jabiyah. So they pledged allegiance to Ibn Ziyad. From then on, among Banu Umayyah and their clients were Marwan b. al-Hakam and after him Khalid b. Yazid b. Mu'awiyah. That was in the middle of Dhu al-Qa'dah in the year 64 AH. Then he marched against al-Dahhak b. Qays, and they met at Marj Rahit and fought for twenty days. Then defeat came upon al-Dahhak b. Qays and his companions, and that was in Dhu al-Hijjah of the year 64 AH. Al-Dahhak b. Qays and many people from Qays were killed.
