حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْأَصْبَهَانِيُّ ثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ الْجَهْمِ ثَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ الْفَرَجِ ثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُمَرَ قَالَ
«تُوُفِّيَ أَبُو هُرَيْرَةَ سَنَةَ تِسْعٍ وَخَمْسِينَ فِي آخِرِ إِمَارَةِ مُعَاوِيَةَ وَكَانَ لَهُ يَوْمَ تُوُفِّيَ ثَمَانٌ وَسَبْعُونَ سَنَةً وَصَلَّى عَلَيْهِ الْوَلِيدُ بْنُ عُتْبَةَ وَهُوَ أَمِيرُ الْمَدِينَةِ وَمَرْوَانُ يَوْمَئِذٍ مَعْزُولٌ عَنْ عَمَلِ الْمَدِينَةِ»

✧ Abu Hurayrah passed away in the year fifty-nine, at the end of Mu'awiyah's governorship; on the day he died he was seventy-eight years old, and al-Walid b. 'Utbah prayed over him while he was governor of Madinah, and Marwan was at that time dismissed from the governorship of Madinah.
