✧ My name in the Jahiliyyah was 'Abd Shams b. Sakhr, but in Islam I was named 'Abd al-Rahman. They gave me the kunyah Abu Hurayrah only because I used to tend sheep for my family and I found kittens of a wild cat, so I put them in my sleeve. When I returned to them, they heard the sounds of the kittens from my lap and said, 'What is this, O 'Abd Shams?' I said, 'Kittens I found.' They said, 'Then you are Abu Hurayrah,' and it stuck to me ever since.
