حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ بَالَوَيْهِ ثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ حَنْبَلٍ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي ثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ ثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ أَشْعَثَ بْنِ أَبِي الشَّعْثَاءِ عَنْ أَبِي بُرْدَةَ قَالَ قَالَ حُذَيْفَةُ

«إِنِّي لَأَعْرِفُ رَجُلًا لَا تَضُرُّهُ الْفِتْنَةُ» فَأَتَيْنَا الْمَدِينَةَ فَإِذَا فُسْطَاطٌ مَضْرُوبٌ وَإِذَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مَسْلَمَةَ الْأَنْصَارِيُّ فَسَأَلْنَاهُ فَقَالَ لَا نَشْتَمِلُ عَلَى سَيِّءٍ مِنْ أَمْصَارِهِمْ حَتَّى يَنْجَلِيَ الْأَمْرُ عَنْ مَا انْجَلَى

✧ Indeed I know a man whom the trial will not harm. So we came to Madinah, and there was a tent pitched and Muhammad b. Maslamah al-Ansari was there. We asked him, and he said: We will not attach ourselves to any bad thing from their cities until the matter clears away from what it has cleared.
