✧ I came to Madinah seeking knowledge. I entered the mosque and found a man with people gathered around him. I said: Who is this? They said: This is Ubay b. Ka'b. I followed him, and he entered his house. I knocked on the door, and he came out and rebuked me and glared at me. I faced the qibla and said: "O Allah, we complain about them to You. We spend our provisions, weary our bodies, and drive our mounts seeking knowledge, but when we meet them, they dislike us." He said: If you give me until Friday, I will certainly speak with what I heard from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, not fearing therein the blame of any blamer. When Thursday came, I went out early, and the streets were crowded. I said: What is the matter with the people today? They said: It seems you are a stranger. I said: Yes. They said: The master of the Muslims, Ubay b. Ka'b, has died.
