حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُؤَمَّلِ وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْقَاسِمِ قَالُوا ثَنَا الْفَضْلُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الشَّعْرَانِيُّ ثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي مَرْيَمَ أَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ أَيُّوبَ وَابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ قَالُوا ثَنَا عُمَارَةُ بْنُ غَزِيَّةَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ عُثْمَانَ عَنْ أُمِّهِ فَاطِمَةَ بِنْتِ حُسَيْنِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ أَنَّهَا قَالَتْ
كَانَ أُسَيْدُ بْنُ حُضَيْرٍ مِنْ أَفَاضِلِ النَّاسِ فَكَانَ يَقُولُ لَوْ أَنِّي أَكُونُ كَمَا أَكُونُ مَحَلَّ حَالٍ مِنْ أَحْوَالٍ ثَلَاثٍ لَكُنْتُ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْجَنَّةِ وَمَا شَكَكْتُ فِي ذَلِكَ حِينَ أَقْرَأُ الْقُرْآنَ وَحِينَ أَسْمَعُهُ وَإِذَا سَمِعْتُ خُطْبَةَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَإِذَا شَهِدْتُ جِنَازَةً فَمَا شَهِدْتُ جِنَازَةً قَطُّ فَحَدَّثْتُ نَفْسِي سِوَى مَا هُوَ مَفْعُولٌ بِهَا وَمَا هِيَ صَائِرَةٌ إِلَيْهِ

✧ Usayd b. Hudayr was one of the most virtuous of people. He used to say: If I could be as I am in any one of three states, I would be among the people of Paradise, and I would have no doubt about that: when I recite the Qur'an, or when I hear it, or when I hear the sermon of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, or when I attend a funeral. I have never attended a funeral and then spoken to myself about anything other than what is being done to it and what it is heading to.
