✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "A righteous man was shown tonight that Abu Bakr was attached to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, Umar was attached to Abu Bakr, and Uthman was attached to Umar." When we rose from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, we said, "As for the righteous man, he is the Messenger of Allah ﷺ; and as for what was mentioned of their being attached to one another, they are the guardians of this matter with which Allah sent His Prophet ﷺ." Al-Darimi said: I heard Yahya b. Ma'in say: Muhammad b. Harb with the chain of this hadith, while the people narrate it from al-Zuhri as mursal; it is only Amr b. Aban, and Aban b. Uthman did not have a son called Amr.

machine translationAl-Dārimī said: I heard Yaḥyā b. Maʿīn say: Muḥammad b. Ḥarb gives this ḥadīth a connected chain (yusnidu), whereas the people narrate it from al-Zuhrī as a mursal report. It is in fact ʿAmr b. Abān, yet Abān b. ʿUthmān had no son called ʿAmr.
