✧ A man came to him and said: Should I begin with al-Safa before al-Marwah, or begin with al-Marwah before al-Safa? And should I pray before I circumambulate, or circumambulate before I pray? And should I shave before I slaughter, or slaughter before I shave? Ibn Abbas said: Take that from the Book of Allah, for it is more deserving of being preserved. Allah Almighty said: {Indeed, al-Safa and al-Marwah are among the symbols of Allah} [al-Baqarah 158], so al-Safa is before al-Marwah. And He said: {Do not shave your heads until the offering reaches its place of sacrifice}, so slaughter is before shaving. And He said: {Purify My House for those who circumambulate, those who stay in retreat, and those who bow and prostrate} [al-Baqarah 125], so circumambulation is before prayer.
