✧ "Shall I not teach you a surah the like of which was not revealed in the Torah, nor in the Gospel, nor in the Psalms, nor in the Furqan?" I said: Yes. He said: "I hope that you will not leave through that door until you learn it." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood up and I stood up with him. He began to talk to me while my hand was in his hand. I started to slow down, disliking that he might leave before telling me it. When I came near the door, I said: O Messenger of Allah, the surah which you promised me. He said: "How do you recite when you stand for prayer?" I recited the Opening of the Book. He said: "It is it, and it is the Seven Oft-Repeated Verses and the Great Quran which I have been given."

In their own words, as Hadith Unlocked records them. They are shown, not summarised into a grade.

  • Abū ʿAbdullāh al-Ḥākim

هذا حديث صحيح على شرط مسلم ولم يخرجاه

machine translationThis is an authentic (ṣaḥīḥ) hadith meeting the criteria of Muslim, though the two of them did not record it.

in المستدرك على الصحيحين, p. 3037
  • Ibn ʿAbd al-Barr

machine translationThere was disagreement about al-ʿAlāʾ in this hadith, as you see, in the chain and in the text. I think there was something in his memory, and God knows best. Ibn Abī Shaybah and Yūsuf b. Mūsā have transmitted it well, from Abū Usāmah, from ʿAbd al-Ḥamīd b. Jaʿfar.

in المستدرك على الصحيحين, p. 3037
