✧ A man from Banū Sulaym passed by a group of the Prophet's companions ﷺ with some sheep of his, and he greeted them. They said: "He did not greet you except to seek protection from you." So they went to him and killed him, and took his sheep, and brought them to the Prophet ﷺ. Then Allah, exalted is He, sent down: "Yā ayyuhā alladhīna āmanū idhā ḍarabtum fī sabīli Allāhi fa-tabayyanū wa lā taqūlū li-man alqā ilaykumu al-salāma lasta muʾminan" [al-Nisāʾ:94] up to His saying: "kadhālika kuntum min qablu fa-manna Allāhu ʿalaykum fa-tabayyanū" [al-Nisāʾ:94].
