✧ “Take your shields.” We said: “O Messenger of Allah, from an enemy who has come?” He said: “No; your shields from the Fire. Say: Glory be to Allah, praise be to Allah, there is no god but Allah, and Allah is greatest. For they will come on the Day of Resurrection as saviors and foremost, and they are the enduring good deeds.”

Notes

machine translation"This is an authentic (ṣaḥīḥ) hadith meeting the criteria of Muslim, and the two of them did not record it."

What scholars said about it

In their own words, as Hadith Unlocked records them. They are shown, not summarised into a grade.

  • Abū ʿAbdullāh al-Ḥākim

machine translationAuthentic (ṣaḥīḥ), meeting the criteria of Muslim, though the two of them did not transmit it.

  • Abū Ḥatim al-Rāzī

machine translationWe used to regard this as gharīb (a report with a single narrator), which Abū ʿUmar al-Ḥawḍī had narrated to us, until Aḥmad b. Yūnus narrated to us from Fuḍayl, meaning Ibn ʿIyāḍ, from Ibn ʿAjlān, from a man from the people of Alexandria, from the Prophet ﷺ. So I knew that it had been corrupted for ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz b. Muslim, and that his flaw had been exposed. The ḥadīth of Fuḍayl is more fitting.

  • Dāraquṭnī

machine translationThe statement of Abū Khālid al-Aḥmar is the most sound (aṣaḥḥ) of them.
