✧ Umm Habibah bt. Jahsh suffered from prolonged bleeding in the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded her to bathe for every prayer. She would immerse herself in a large tub filled with water and then come out with the blood floating on top of it, then she would pray.

machine translationThere is much disagreement among the narrators from al-Zuhrī regarding this hadith. At times he narrates it from ʿAmrah from ʿĀʾishah, at times from ʿUrwah from ʿĀʾishah, at times from ʿUrwah and ʿAmrah from ʿĀʾishah, and at times from ʿUrwah from Fāṭimah bint Abī Ḥubaysh. Most of the students of Ibn Shihāb say in it: from ʿUrwah and ʿAmrah from ʿĀʾishah, that Umm Ḥabībah bint Jaḥsh, the in-law of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, who was married to ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. ʿAwf, had irregular bleeding (istuḥīḍat). This is how they report it from Ibn Shihāb in this hadith: Umm Ḥabībah, without mentioning Fāṭimah bint Abī Ḥubaysh. The hadith of Ibn Shihāb on this subject is inconsistent (muḍṭarib).
