أَخْبَرَنَا يَزِيدُ عَنِ الْمَسْعُودِيِّ عَنْ عَوْنِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ
«مَا أُحِبُّ أَنَّ أَصْحَابَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ لَمْ يَخْتَلِفُوا فَإِنَّهُمْ لَوِ اجْتَمَعُوا عَلَى شَيْءٍ فَتَرَكَهُ رَجُلٌ تَرَكَ السُّنَّةَ وَلَوِ اخْتَلَفُوا فَأَخَذَ رَجُلٌ بِقَوْلِ أَحَدٍ أَخَذَ بِالسُّنَّةِ»
Translation

✧ I would not like the companions of the Prophet ﷺ to have not differed, for had they agreed upon something and a man abandoned it, he would have abandoned the Sunnah; but since they differed, if a man takes the saying of one of them, he has taken the Sunnah.
