أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ أَنبَأَنَا عَبْدُ السَّلَامِ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الْوَلِيدِ الْمُزَنِيِّ عَنْ عُبَيْدِ بْنِ الْحَسَنِ قَالَ
قَسَمَ مُصْعَبُ بْنُ الزُّبَيْرِ مَالًا فِي قُرَّاءِ أَهْلِ الْكُوفَةِ حِينَ دَخَلَ شَهْرُ رَمَضَانَ فَبَعَثَ إِلَى عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ مَعْقِلٍ بِأَلْفَيْ دِرْهَمٍ فَقَالَ لَهُ اسْتَعِنْ بِهَا فِي شَهْرِكَ هَذَا فَرَدَّهَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَعْقِلٍ وَقَالَ لَمْ نَقْرَأِ الْقُرْآنَ لِهَذَا

✧ Mus'ab b. al-Zubayr distributed wealth among the reciters of Kufa when Ramadan began, and he sent two thousand dirhams to Abd al-Rahman b. Ma'qil, saying: 'Use it to help you in this month of yours.' Abd al-Rahman b. Ma'qil returned it and said: 'We did not recite the Quran for this.'
