✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to pray facing a trunk and deliver sermons by it when the mosque was a trellis. One of his companions said to him, 'Shall we not make for you a trellis on which you can stand so that the people can see you on Friday and hear your sermon?' He said, 'Yes.' So three steps were made for him, the ones that are on the pulpit. When the pulpit was made and placed in the position where the Messenger of Allah ﷺ placed it, he said, 'When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came heading to the pulpit, he passed by it. When he moved beyond it, the trunk bellowed until it split and cracked. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ returned to it and wiped it with his hand until it became still, then he went back to the pulpit.' He said, 'When he prayed, he prayed facing it. When the mosque was demolished, Ubayy b. Ka'b took that trunk, and it remained with him until it decayed and was eaten by termites and turned to dust.'
