✧ If he frees his slave before his death and has no other wealth.

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْوَلِيدِ حَدَّثَنَا هَمَّامٌ حَدَّثَنَا قَتَادَةُ عَنْ الْحَسَنِ
أَنَّ رَجُلًا اشْتَرَى عَبْدًا بِتِسْعِ مِائَةِ دِرْهَمٍ فَأَعْتَقَهُ وَلَمْ يَقْضِ ثَمَنَ الْعَبْدِ وَلَمْ يَتْرُكْ شَيْئًا فَقَالَ عَلِيٌّ «يَسْعَى الْعَبْدُ فِي ثَمَنِهِ»

✧ That a man bought a slave for nine hundred dirhams and freed him, and did not pay the price of the slave, and left nothing. Ali said: 'The slave strives for his price.'
