أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْوَلِيدِ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ قَالَ أَنْبَأَنَا أَبُو إِسْحَاقَ قَالَ

سَمِعْتُ الْبَرَاءَ يَقُولُ لَمَّا نَزَلَتْ هَذِهِ الْآيَةُ {لَا يَسْتَوِي الْقَاعِدُونَ مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ} [النساء 95] دَعَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ زَيْدًا فَجَاءَ بِكَتِفٍ فَكَتَبَهَا وَشَكَا ابْنُ أُمِّ مَكْتُومٍ ضَرَارَتَهُ فَنَزَلَتْ {لَا يَسْتَوِي الْقَاعِدُونَ مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ غَيْرُ أُولِي الضَّرَرِ} [النساء 95]

Translation

✧ I heard al-Bara' saying: When this verse was revealed—{Not equal are those who sit among the believers} [al-Nisa' 95]—the Messenger of Allah ﷺ called Zayd, and he brought a shoulder blade, and he wrote it. Ibn Umm Maktum complained of his disability, so it was revealed: {Not equal are those who sit among the believers, other than those with a handicap} [al-Nisa' 95]."
