✧ We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on a journey when a bedouin came. When he drew near, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him, "Where do you want [to go]?" He said, "To my family." He said, "Would you like [something] good?" He said, "What is it?" He said, "That you bear witness that there is no god but Allah, alone without partner, and that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger." He said, "Who will bear witness to what you say?" He said, "This salamah tree." So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ called it while it was on the bank of the valley, and it came plowing through the earth until it stood before him. He asked it to testify three times, and it testified three times that he was as he said. Then it returned to its place of growth, and the bedouin returned to his people and said, "If they follow me, I will bring them to you; otherwise I will return and stay with you."

What scholars said about it

  • Abū Ḥatim al-Rāzī

machine translationI reject this, because Abū Ḥayyān did not hear from ʿAṭāʾ and did not narrate from him, and this hadith is not from the hadith of ʿAṭāʾ. I said: Whose do you think it is? He said: It is more like the hadith of Abū Jannāb.
