✧ ʿAmmār b. Yāsir delivered a sermon to us, and he was eloquent yet concise. We said, “O Abu al-Yaqẓān, if only you had paused a little?” He said, “I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, ‘Indeed, the length of a man’s prayer and the brevity of his sermon are a sign of his understanding, so lengthen this prayer and shorten these sermons, for indeed some eloquence is sorcery.’”
