✧ The Reestablishment of Prayers in Congregation after Praying at Home

حَدَّثَنَا هَاشِمُ بْنُ الْقَاسِمِ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ يَعْلَى بْنِ عَطَاءٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ جَابِرَ بْنَ يَزِيدَ بْنِ الْأَسْوَدِ السُّوَائِيَّ يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ أَبِيهِ

أَنَّهُ صَلَّى مَعَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ صَلَاةَ الصُّبْحِ قَالَ فَإِذَا رَجُلَانِ حِينَ صَلَّى النَّبِيُّ ﷺ قَاعِدَانِ فِي نَاحِيَةٍ لَمْ يُصَلِّيَا قَالَ فَدَعَا بِهِمَا فَجِيءَ بِهِمَا تُرْعَدُ فَرَائِصُهُمَا قَالَ «مَا مَنَعَكُمَا أَنْ تُصَلِّيَا؟» قَالَا صَلَّيْنَا فِي رِحَالِنَا قَالَ «فَلَا تَفْعَلَا إِذَا صَلَّيْتُمَا فِي رِحَالِكُمَا ثُمَّ أَدْرَكْتُمَا الْإِمَامَ فَصَلِّيَا فَإِنَّهَا لَكُمَا نَافِلَةٌ» قَالَ فَقَامَ النَّاسُ يَأْخُذُونَ بِيَدِهِ يَمْسَحُونَ بِهَا وُجُوهَهُمْ قَالَ فَأَخَذْتُ بِيَدِهِ فَمَسَحْتُ بِهَا وَجْهِي فَإِذَا هِيَ أَبْرَدُ مِنَ الثَّلْجِ وَأَطْيَبُ رِيحًا مِنَ الْمِسْكِ

Translation

✧ He prayed the dawn prayer with the Prophet ﷺ. He said: When the Prophet ﷺ had prayed, there were two men sitting in a corner who had not prayed. He called for them, and they were brought trembling. He said: 'What prevented you from praying?' They said: 'We prayed in our homes.' He said: 'Do not do that. If you pray in your homes and then catch the imam, pray with him, for it will be a voluntary prayer for you.' He said: Then the people stood up and took his hand to wipe their faces with it. He said: I took his hand and wiped my face with it, and it was cooler than snow and more fragrant than musk.
