✧ Who liked chivalry and disliked arrogance and ostentation

أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو نُعَيْمٍ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ السَّائِبِ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنَ أَبِي لَيْلَى يَقُولُ

لَقَدْ أَدْرَكْتُ فِي هَذَا الْمَسْجِدِ عِشْرِينَ وَمِائَةً مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ «وَمَا مِنْهُمْ مِنْ أَحَدٍ يُحَدِّثُ بِحَدِيثٍ إِلَّا وَدَّ أَنَّ أَخَاهُ كَفَاهُ الْحَدِيثَ وَلَا يُسْأَلُ عَنْ فُتْيَا إِلَّا وَدَّ أَنَّ أَخَاهُ كَفَاهُ الْفُتْيَا»

Translation

✧ I met in this mosque one hundred and twenty of the Ansar, and there was not one of them who would narrate a hadith except that he wished his brother would spare him the hadith, and none was asked for a legal opinion except that he wished his brother would spare him the legal opinion.
