أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو نُعَيْمٍ حَدَّثَنَا الْمَسْعُودِيُّ عَنِ الْوَلِيدِ بْنِ سَرِيعٍ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ حُرَيْثٍ

أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَقْرَأُ فِي صَلَاةِ الصُّبْحِ {إِذَا الشَّمْسُ كُوِّرَتْ} [التكوير 1] فَلَمَّا انْتَهَى إِلَى هَذِهِ الْآيَةِ {وَاللَّيْلِ إِذَا عَسْعَسَ} [التكوير 17] جَعَلْتُ أَقُولُ فِي نَفْسِي مَا اللَّيْلُ إِذَا عَسْعَسَ؟

Translation

✧ He heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ reciting in the dawn prayer: 'When the sun is wrapped up.' When he reached this verse: 'And by the night when it departs,' I began to say to myself: What is the night when it departs?
