✧ The arrival of women in their backyards

أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو نُعَيْمٍ حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الرِّفَاعِيُّ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ الْحَسَنَ يَقُولُ

كَانَتِ الْيَهُودُ لَا تَأْلُو مَا شَدَّدَتْ عَلَى الْمُسْلِمِينَ كَانُوا يَقُولُونَ يَا أَصْحَابَ مُحَمَّدٍ إِنَّهُ وَاللَّهِ مَا يَحِلُّ لَكُمْ أَنْ تَأْتُوا نِسَاءَكُمْ إِلَّا مِنْ وَجْهٍ وَاحِدٍ قَالَ فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ {نِسَاؤُكُمْ حَرْثٌ لَكُمْ فَأْتُوا حَرْثَكُمْ أَنَّى شِئْتُمْ} [البقرة 223] فَخَلَّى اللَّهُ بَيْنَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَبَيْنَ حَاجَتِهِمْ

Translation

✧ The Jews did not stop making things difficult for the Muslims. They used to say, “O companions of Muhammad, by Allah, it is not permissible for you to come to your wives except from one direction.” He said, “So Allah revealed, “Your wives are a tilth for you, so come to your tilth as you wish” [al-Baqarah 223]. Thus Allah left the believers free to satisfy their need.”
