…upon him peace: whoever laughed must repeat the ablution and the prayer. Abū Umayyah said, from Anas and Abū al-ʿĀliyah, that the Messenger of God ﷺ was leading the people in prayer when a blind man entered the mosque and fell into a well, and the people behind the Messenger of God ﷺ laughed. Ibn Mukhallad said, from Anas and Abū al-ʿĀliyah, that the Messenger of God ﷺ was leading the people in prayer, and there was a well in the middle of the mosque. A blind man came and fell into it, and some people laughed, so the Messenger of God ﷺ commanded whoever had laughed to repeat the ablution and the prayer. Abū Umayyah said: This is a rejected (munkar) hadith. The Shaykh Abū al-Ḥasan said: None narrated it from Sallām except ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. ʿAmr b. Jabalah, and he is abandoned (matrūk), a fabricator of hadith. Dāwūd b. al-Muḥabbar, who is abandoned (matrūk) and a fabricator of hadith, also narrated it from Ayyūb b. Khūṭ, who is also weak, from Qatādah, from Anas.

machine translationThis hadith, the hadith of Abū al-ʿĀliyah, was narrated by al-Ḥasan al-Baṣrī, Qatādah, Ibrāhīm al-Nakhaʿī and al-Zuhrī, who relate this story on their own authority as a mursal report. There is disagreement about each of them, as connected and as mursal. All of these go back to Abū al-ʿĀliyah, and the hadith is his.
