✧ My mistress said: “I will surely separate you from your wife, and all her wealth is for the covering of the Kaʿbah, and she is one day a Jewess, one day a Christian, and one day a Magian, if I do not separate you from your wife.” He said: So I went to the Mother of the Believers, Umm Salamah, and said: “My mistress wants to separate me from my wife.” She said: “Go to your mistress and tell her that this is not lawful for you.” He said: So I returned to her. He said: Then I came to Ibn ʿUmar and informed him. He came until he reached the door and said: “Here is Hārūt and Mārūt.” She said: “I have made all my wealth for the covering of the Kaʿbah.” He said: “Then what will you eat?” She said: “And I said: I am one day a Jewess, one day a Christian, and one day a Magian.” He said: “If you become a Jewess, you will be killed; if you become a Christian, you will be killed; if you become a Magian, you will be killed.” She said: “What do you command me?” He said: “Expiate your oath and reunite your young man and your young woman.”
