  • Dāraquṭnī

machine translationThe correct version is what Wakīʿ and others narrated from al-Thawrī, from Khālid al-Ḥadhdhāʾ, from Ibn Sīrīn, as a mursal report.

    in سنن الدارقطني, p. 408
  • Abū Bakr Aḥmad b. al-Ḥusayn al-Bayhaqī

machine translationThis ḥadīth is an error, that is, the ḥadīth of Barakah. What is actually narrated is from Muḥammad b. Sīrīn, who said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ established as a sunnah sniffing water into the nose three times in the state of major ritual impurity. This is how the trustworthy narrators reported it from Sufyān al-Thawrī, from Khālid al-Ḥadhdhāʾ, from Ibn Sīrīn, as a mursal report.

    in سنن الدارقطني, p. 408

machine translationThe chain up to Ibn Sīrīn is sound (ṣaḥīḥ).

    in سنن الدارقطني, p. 408
  • Dāraquṭnī

machine translationIt has also been narrated as a mursal report from Ibn Sīrīn, with a wording other than this, through a sound (ṣaḥīḥ) chain, from the Prophet ﷺ: sniffing water into the nose three times in the state of major ritual impurity. Abū al-Ḥasan said in al-Afrād: This is gharīb from the ḥadīth of al-Thawrī from Khālid. It is only known from the narration of Hammām b. Muslim, who was alone in narrating it from al-Thawrī, and Sulaymān b. al-Rabīʿ was alone in narrating it from him. Ibn al-Jawzī mentioned it among the fabricated reports (al-mawḍūʿāt) and said: It contradicts the consensus, since those who made it obligatory did not make it obligatory three times.
