✧ While Malik b. Dinar was sitting one day, a man came to him and said, “O Abu Yahya, supplicate for a woman who has been pregnant for four years and has come to be in severe distress.” Malik became angry, closed the scriptures, and said, “Do the people think we are prophets?” Then he recited, then he supplicated, then he said, “O Allah, if there is wind in this woman’s belly, remove it from her this very hour; and if there is a girl in her belly, replace it for her with a boy, for You erase what You will and confirm, and with You is the Mother of the Book.” Then Malik raised his hand and the people raised their hands. The messenger went to the man and said, “Catch up with your wife.” The man went, and Malik had not lowered his hand before the man appeared at the door of the mosque carrying on his shoulders a boy with thick, curly hair, four years old, whose teeth had fully grown, whose umbilical cord had not been cut.
