نا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ نا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الدَّوْرَقِيُّ نا أَبُو النَّضْرِ نا أَبُو سَعِيدٍ الْمُؤَدِّبُ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَمْرِو بْنِ عَلْقَمَةَ عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ قَالَ تَزَوَّجَ جُبَيْرُ بْنُ مُطْعِمٍ امْرَأَةً فَطَلَّقَهَا قَبْلَ

أَنْ يَدْخُلَ بِهَا فَقَرَأَ الْآيَةَ إِلَّا أَنْ يَعْفُونَ أَوْ يَعْفُوَ الَّذِي بِيَدِهِ عُقْدَةُ النِّكَاحِ البقرة 237 فَقَالَ أَنَا أَحَقُّ بِالْعَفْوِ مِنْهَا فَسَلَّمَ إِلَيْهَا الْمَهْرَ كَامِلًا فَأَعْطَاهَا إِيَّاهُ

✧ Before consummating the marriage with her, he recited the verse: 'Unless they forgive or the one in whose hand is the knot of marriage forgives' [al-Baqarah 237]. He said: I am more entitled to forgiveness than she is. So he delivered the full dowry to her and gave it to her.
