✧ On the authority of Ibn Abbas regarding His saying: “And upon those who can bear it, a ransom of feeding a poor person” [al-Baqarah 184]. He said: They can bear it, meaning they are burdened with it. A ransom of feeding one poor person. “Then whoever volunteers good” [al-Baqarah 184]—so he adds another poor person. It is not abrogated; “that is better for him. And that you fast is better for you” [al-Baqarah 184]. No concession is given in this except for the elderly who cannot bear fasting, or a sick person who knows he will not recover. And this chain is sound.
