حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ ثنا يُونُسُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْأَعْلَى ثنا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ قَالَ
قَالَ مَالِكٌ فِي الَّذِي يَرَى هِلَالَ رَمَضَانَ وَحْدَهُ أَنَّهُ يَصُومُ لِأَنَّهُ لَا يَنْبَغِي لَهُ أَنْ يُفْطِرَ وَهُوَ يَعْلَمُ أَنَّ ذَلِكَ الْيَوْمَ مِنْ شَهْرِ رَمَضَانَ وَمَنْ رَأَى هِلَالَ شَوَّالٍ وَحْدَهُ فَلَا يُفْطِرُ لِأَنَّ النَّاسَ يَتَّهِمُونَ عَلَى أَنْ يُفْطِرَ مِنْهُمْ مَنْ لَيْسَ مَأْمُونًا ثُمَّ يَقُولُ أُولَئِكَ إِذَا ظَهَرَ عَلَيْهِمْ قَدْ رَأَيْنَا الْهِلَالَ
Translation

✧ Malik said concerning the one who sees the crescent of Ramadan alone: he should fast, because it is not proper for him to break his fast while he knows that that day is from the month of Ramadan. And whoever sees the crescent of Shawwal alone should not break his fast, because people are suspected: some of them may break their fast who are not trustworthy, and then they say, when it becomes known to them: we had seen the crescent.
