machine translationAbū Dāwūd narrated it from al-Ḥasan b. ʿAlī, from Ḥusayn al-Juʿfī, and from Mūsā, from Ḥammād, from Simāk, with similar meaning, and he did not mention Ibn ʿAbbās. Abū Dāwūd said: A group narrated it from Simāk, from ʿIkrimah, as a mursal report. Al-Tirmidhī narrated it from Muḥammad b. Ismāʿīl, from Muḥammad b. al-Ṣabbāḥ, from al-Walīd b. Abī Thawr, from Simāk, with something like it, and from Abū Kurayb, from Ḥusayn al-Juʿfī, from Zāʾidah, with it. He said: Al-Thawrī and others narrated it from Simāk, from ʿIkrimah, from the Prophet ﷺ as a mursal report. Al-Nasāʾī narrated it from Muḥammad b. ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz Ibn Abī Razmah, from al-Sīnānī, from Sufyān, from Simāk, as a musnad report; and from Mūsā b. ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, from Ḥusayn, with it; and from Aḥmad b. Sulaymān, from Abū Dāwūd; and from Muḥammad b. Ḥātim, from Ḥibbān, from Ibn al-Mubārak, all of them from Sufyān, from Simāk, from ʿIkrimah, as mursal. He said: This is more likely to be correct than the report of al-Faḍl b. Mūsā al-Sīnānī, because Simāk b. Ḥarb was sometimes prompted (lmuqqina), so it was said to him "from Ibn ʿAbbās"; and Ibn al-Mubārak is more reliable in narrating from Sufyān than al-Faḍl; and when Simāk is alone in transmitting a basic report, he is not a proof, because he used to be prompted and would accept the prompting. Ibn Mājah narrated it from ʿAmr b. ʿAbdullāh al-Awdī and Muḥammad b. Ismāʿīl al-Aḥmasī, from Abū Usāmah, from Zāʾidah, with it. I said: The narration of Zāʾidah and Ḥāzim b. Ibrāhīm al-Bajalī strengthens the narration of al-Faḍl al-Sīnānī. I have seen more than one sound hadith that Ibn al-Mubārak narrates and makes mawqūf. As for Simāk b. Ḥarb, the reports about him differ; Yaḥyā b. Maʿīn declared him trustworthy (wathaqahu), and Abū Ḥātim al-Rāzī said: truthful (ṣadūq), trustworthy (thiqah). Muslim narrated many of his reports in his Ṣaḥīḥ.
