✧ What Muhammad b. Abi Bakr narrated from his father Abu Bakr

حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ شَبِيبٍ قَالَ: نَا هَارُونُ بْنُ يَحْيَى بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ حَاطِبٍ قَالَ: نَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ فُضَيْلٍ الْجَرْمِيُّ، عَنْ أَبِي حَازِمٍ، عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ، قَالَ:

دَخَلَ عَلَيْنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ وَنَحْنُ فِي الرَّوْضَةِ فَصَعِدَ الْمِنْبَرَ فَحَمِدَ اللهَ وَأَثْنَى عَلَيْهِ ثُمَّ قَالَ: أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ إِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ عَلَى هَذِهِ الْأَعْوَادِ عَامَ أَوَّلَ: مَا أُعْطِيَ عَبْدٌ أَفْضَلَ مِنْ حُسْنِ الْيَقِينِ وَالْعَافِيَةِ فَسَلُوا اللهَ حُسْنَ الْيَقِينِ وَالْعَافِيَةَ

✧ Abu Bakr entered upon us while we were in the Rawda. He ascended the minbar, praised and extolled Allah, then said: O people, I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say on these planks last year: A servant has not been given anything more excellent than sound certainty and well-being. So ask Allah for sound certainty and well-being.

    وهذا الحديث ذكرناه عن أبي بكر وإن كان قد ذكرنا نحو معناه بغير لفظه لعلتين أما أحدهما فاختلاف لفظه عن لفظ أبي هريرة والعلة الأخرى أن سهل بن سعد لم يسند عن أبي بكر غير هذا الحديث

As for the first, its wording differs from the wording of Abū Hurayrah. The other reason is that Sahl b. Saʿd did not narrate from Abū Bakr, with a connected chain, any hadith other than this one.
