حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ نَصْرٍ، نَا أَبُو نُعَيْمٍ، نَا جَعْفَرُ بْنُ بُرْقَانَ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ الْأَصَمِّ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ:

تَظْهَرُ الْفِتَنُ وَيَكْثُرُ الْهَرْجُ، قُلْنَا: وَمَا الْهَرْجُ ؟ قَالَ: الْقَتْلُ، وَيُقْبَضُ الْعِلْمُ، قَالَ عُمَرُ: لَمْ أَسْمَعْ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ يَأْثُرُهُ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ: أَمَا إِنَّ قَبْضَ الْعِلْمِ لَيْسَ بِشَيْءٍ يُنْتَزَعُ مِنْ صُدُورِ الرِّجَالِ، وَلَكِنَّهُ فَنَاءُ الْعُلَمَاءِ

Translation

✧ Trials will appear and killing will increase. We said: What is killing? He said: Murder. And knowledge will be taken away. Umar said: I did not hear Abu Hurayrah trace it back to the Prophet ﷺ. He said: Indeed, the taking away of knowledge is not something that will be snatched from the chests of men, but it is the passing away of the scholars.
