حَدَّثَنَا زِيَادُ بْنُ يَحْيَى، نَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ دِينَارٍ، عَنْ طَاوُسٍ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ:

احْتَجَّ آدَمُ وَمُوسَى. فَقَالَ مُوسَى: أَنْتَ آدَمُ الَّذِي خَلَقَكَ اللهُ بِيَدِهِ وَنَفَخَ فِيكَ مِنْ رُوحِهِ، أَخْرَجْتَنَا مِنَ الْجَنَّةِ - أَوْ أَخْرَجْتَ ذُرِّيَّتَكَ - قَالَ آدَمُ: وَأَنْتَ مُوسَى الَّذِي اصْطَفَاكَ اللهُ بِرِسَالَاتِهِ وَبِكَلَامِهِ، فَهَلْ تَجِدُ ذَلِكَ عَلَيَّ مَكْتُوبًا قَبْلَ أَنْ أُخْلَقَ ؟ قَالَ: نَعَمْ، قَالَ: فَحَجَّ آدَمُ مُوسَى

Translation

✧ Adam and Moses argued. Moses said: 'You are Adam whom Allah created with His hand and breathed into you of His spirit. You brought us out of Paradise — or you brought out your progeny.' Adam said: 'And you are Moses whom Allah chose with His messages and with His speech. Do you find that written against me before I was created?' He said: 'Yes.' He said: 'So Adam defeated Moses in argument.'
