✧ What 'Abd al-Rahman al-A'raj narrated from Abu Hurayrah

حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ شَبُّوَيْهِ الْمَرْوَزِيُّ، نَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ شَقِيقٍ، نَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ وَاقِدٍ، عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ، عَنْ أَبِي صَالِحٍ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ

أَنَّ رَجُلًا قَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، دُلَّنِي عَلَى عَمَلٍ أَدْخُلُ بِهِ الْجَنَّةَ، قَالَ: لَا تَغْضَبْ قَالَ: وَأَتَاهُ آخَرُ فَقَالَ: مَتَى أَعْلَمُ أَنِّي مُحْسِنٌ ؟ قَالَ: إِذَا قَالَ جِيرَانُكَ أَنَّكَ مُحْسِنٌ، فَإِنَّكَ مُحْسِنٌ، وَإِذَا قَالُوا: إِنَّكَ مُسِيءٌ، فَإِنَّكَ مُسِيءٌ

✧ A man said, 'O Messenger of Allah, guide me to a deed by which I may enter Paradise.' He said, 'Do not get angry.' Another came and said, 'When will I know that I am doing good?' He said, 'When your neighbors say you are doing good, then you are doing good; and if they say you are doing evil, then you are doing evil.'
