✧ What 'Abd al-Rahman al-A'raj narrated from Abu Hurayrah

وَنَاهُ عَمْرُو بْنُ عَلِيٍّ، نَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ، عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ، عَنْ أَبِي صَالِحٍ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ:
إِنَّمَا مَثَلِي فِي الْأَنْبِيَاءِ قَبْلِي كَمَثَلِ دَارٍ بَنَاهَا رَجُلٌ فَأَحْسَنَ بِنَاءَهَا وَتَرَكَ فِيهَا لَبِنَةً، فَجَعَلَ النَّاسُ يَجِيئُونَ فَيَنْظُرُونَ إِلَيْهَا، فَيَقُولُونَ: مَا أَحْسَنَ هَذِهِ الدَّارَ، لَوْ أُكْمِلَتْ هَذِهِ اللَّبِنَةُ ! فَكُنْتُ أَنَا اللَّبِنَةَ
Translation

✧ My likeness among the prophets before me is that of a house built by a man who perfected its construction, leaving in it a single brick. People would come and look at it, saying: 'How excellent this house is, if only that brick were put in place!' And I am that brick.
