حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرٌو قَالَ: نَا أَبُو عَاصِمٍ قَالَ: نَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَجْلَانَ عَنِ الْمَقْبُرِيِّ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، قَالَ
أَهْدَى رَجُلٌ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ لِقْحَةً، فَأَثَابَهُ مِنْهَا بِسِتِّ بَكَرَاتٍ فَظَلَّ يَسْخَطُ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: أَهْدَى إِلَيَّ فُلَانٌ لِقْحَةً فَأَثَبْتُهُ مِنْهَا بِسِتِّ بَكَرَاتٍ فَظَلَّ يَسْخَطُ، أَوْ يَتَسَخَّطُ - وَاللهِ لَقَدْ هَمَمْتُ أَنْ لَا أَقْبَلَ لِرَجُلٍ مِنَ الْعَرَبِ هَدِيَّةً إِلَّا أَنْ يَكُونَ قُرَشِيًّا أَوْ أَنْصَارِيًّا أَوْ دَوْسِيًّا أَوْ ثَقَفِيًّا
Translation

✧ A man gave the Messenger of Allah ﷺ a milch camel as a gift, and he rewarded him for it with six young she-camels, yet he remained displeased. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'So-and-so gave me a milch camel as a gift, and I rewarded him with six young she-camels, yet he remains displeased'—or 'he is still displeased'—'By Allah, I have resolved not to accept a gift from any man of the Arabs except if he is a Qurayshi, an Ansari, a Dausi, or a Thaqafi.'
