✧ What Urwah narrated from Abu Hurayrah

حَدَّثَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ، قَالَ: نَا حَسَّانُ بْنُ غَالِبٍ، قَالَ: نَا ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ عَطَاءٍ، عَنْ سَلَمَةَ بْنِ الْأَزْرَقِ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، قَالَ

مَرَّ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بِجِنَازَةٍ يُبْكَى عَلَيْهَا، وَأَنَا مَعَهُ وَعُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ، فَانْتَهَرَهُنَّ عُمَرُ. فَقَالَ: دَعْهُنَّ يَا ابْنَ الْخَطَّابِ، فَإِنَّ النَّفْسَ مُصَابَةٌ، وَالْعَيْنَ دَامِعَةٌ، وَالْعَهْدَ قَرِيبٌ

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed by a funeral over which people were weeping, and I was with him along with Umar b. al-Khattab. Umar rebuked the women. He said: 'Leave them, O Ibn al-Khattab, for the soul is afflicted, the eye sheds tears, and the covenant is recent.'
