✧ The Ansar said on the day of the conquest of Makkah: "He gave to Quraysh. This is indeed strange—our swords are dripping with the blood of Quraysh, while our spoils are being returned to them." This reached the Prophet ﷺ, so he summoned the Ansar in private and said: "What is this that has reached me about you?"—and they were not ones to lie—so they said: "It is what has reached you." Then he said: "Are you not pleased that the people go home with the spoils while you return with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to your homes?" He said: And the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "If the Ansar were to travel through a valley or a mountain pass, I would travel through the valley of the Ansar or their mountain pass."
