حَدَّثَنَا نَصْرُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ، أَنَا نُوحُ بْنُ قَيْسٍ، نَا خَالِدُ بْنُ قَيْسٍ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ، قَالَ:

كَتَبَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ إِلَى بَكْرِ بْنِ وَائِلٍ: مِنْ مُحَمَّدٍ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ إِلَى بَكْرِ بْنِ وَائِلٍ أَنْ أَسْلِمُوا تَسْلَمُوا، فَمَا وَجَدُوا مَنْ يَقْرَأُهُ لَهُمْ إِلَّا رَجُلٌ مِنْ بَنِي ضُبَيْعَةَ فَهُمْ يُسَمَّوْنَ بَنِي الْكَاتِبِ

Translation

✧ The Prophet ﷺ wrote to Bakr b. Wa'il: From Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, to Bakr b. Wa'il: Submit (become Muslims) and you will be safe. They found no one to read it to them except a man from Banu Dubay'ah, so they are called Banu al-Katib (the sons of the scribe).
